VU University Amsterdam opened its doors in 1880 and is now a wellestablished and renowned university with about 19,000 students and 2,000 academic staff in total. Nowadays it comprises twelve faculties with 55 Bachelor’s degree programmes and almost 100 Master’s degree programmes. The Graduate School of Economics and Business is part of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration of VU University Amsterdam. This is a medium-sized faculty, with 3,500 students and 500 members of staff. The Graduate School offers eight Master‘s degree programmes and has approximately 1,300 students. All programmes have been accredited by the Accreditation Organization of the Netherlands and Flanders (NVAO). The faculty combines the advantages of being small enough to offer good student-staff contact and yet large enough to attract talented academic staff to teach a wide range of excellent programmes. International Recognition & Orientation tationHigh-quality teaching and cutting edge research have given the university a great deal of recognition, enabling it to attract prominent lecturers from within the Netherlands and abroad. Besides, our Master courses all focus upon global developments, track worldwide trends, cover internationally recognized theories. All the full-time master programmes are taught in English and welcome an increasing number of foreign students, who add to a lively, vibrant international academic community. Interaction and Personal Approach Tuition and supervision at the Graduate School are small-scale, interactive and personal. You will work in relatively small groups, in which considerable emphasis is placed on interaction and a personal approach. A great amount of attention is also paid to translating theory into practice by means of case studies and practical assignments. You will receive intensive and challenging training from senior members of staff who are themselves active researchers and business managers. This all combined will prepare you for being a balanced and analytical professional with great value on the job market. Social Involvement One of the most important values of VU University Amsterdam is the emphasis placed upon social involvement in the university’s teaching and research programmes. We feel that academic work cannot take place in isolation from what is going on in society in terms of norms and values, philosophy and religion. Scholarships VU University Amsterdam awards its own scholarships to outstanding students joining our international Master‘s degree programmes. One campus, international companies and lively Amsterdam Almost all of VU University Amsterdam‘s students, staff and programmes are located in a single building complex in the south part of Amsterdam, in one of the most dynamic and fast-growing business districts in the Netherlands. Apart from being one of Europe’s leading fi nancial centres, Amsterdam has the largest concentration of students in the Netherlands. Almost everybody speaks English and the quality of life ranks among the best. It‘s no wonder that more than 1,800 foreign companies have already chosen Amsterdam as their European base. For students and expatriates alike, it is easy to feel at home in a city like this, which is so well geared to meeting the needs of its many foreign residents.
